C&W Manufacturing provides CNC turning for shafts, bushings, spacers, pins, fittings and manifolds from one-off prototypes to production lots. Four CNC lathes, including a dual-turret machine, handle production turning with threads, grooves and live-tool features, and manual lathes take large work up to 24 inches in diameter and 60 inches long. Aluminum, stainless, alloy steel, titanium and nickel alloys, under an AS9100D quality system. ITAR registered.

Turned work, done to print

Shafts and shoulders

Stepped shafts with bearing journals, keyways and threads, in cold-drawn 1018 and 1045, pre-hard 4140 and stainless. Our 1018 vs 1045 guide covers the stock choices.

Large diameters

Rings, flanges and housings to 24 inches in diameter on the manual lathes, where CNC bar work stops. Most shops our size cannot take that envelope.

Bushings and spacers

Production lots of bushings and spacers with tight concentricity between bore and OD, faced and chamfered, in bronze, stainless and steel.

Fittings and manifolds

Hydraulic fittings and manifold bodies with ports to AS5202 and threads to AS8879 UNJ, the aerospace hydraulic standards.

Hard alloys

Frequently asked questions

What is the largest diameter you can turn?

Up to 24 inches in diameter and 60 inches long on our manual lathes. Production CNC turning covers the bar-stock range; ask about your specific part and we will match it to the right machine.

Do you do live-tool and dual-turret turning?

Yes. One of our four CNC lathes is a dual-turret machine, and live tooling lets us mill flats, drill cross-holes and cut keyways in the same setup as the turning, which holds those features concentric and true to the turned diameters.

Which materials do you turn?

Aluminum, carbon and alloy steels including pre-hard 4140, stainless steels including 17-4 PH, titanium, Inconel and other nickel alloys, brass and bronze, and engineering plastics such as Delrin and UHMW.

Can you thread to aerospace standards?

Yes. UN, UNJ (AS8879) and metric threads, cut or rolled as the drawing requires, and checked with thread gages. Our UNJ thread reference lists the dimensions we work to.

What tolerances do you hold on turned parts?

Standard machining tolerances are routine, and tight concentricity, fit-class diameters and fine surface finishes are quoted against the drawing. Send the print and we will confirm what we can hold and how we will inspect it.

Do you provide first-article inspection?

Yes. AS9102 first article inspection reports with CMM and gage data are standard for aerospace and defense programs, under our AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 certified quality system.
